Sparkler ("we," "our," or "us") is a decentralized dating app built on the open Nostr protocol. We are committed to protecting your privacy and security.
1. Information We Collect and How We Use It
- Cryptographic Keys: Sparkler does not store your private keys (nsec) on central databases. Your key is stored locally on your device's secure hardware enclave.
- Profile Data: When you create a profile (Name, Bio, Age Range, Gender, Photos), this data is published as public Nostr events (Kind 30400) to open relays. This data is public by design.
- Location Data: If enabled, Sparkler coarsens your GPS coordinates locally on-device using Uber's H3 spatial index cells. This protects your exact location. Coarsened location records are transmitted to proximity indexes and automatically auto-expire after 60 minutes of inactivity.
- Messages: Direct messages and likes are encrypted end-to-end (NIP-17 / NIP-44) on your device before they are sent over Nostr relays. Only you and the recipient can read them.
2. Data Sharing and Retention
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to third parties. We do not track users or run ads.
- Public Nostr events (profile edits) persist on Nostr relays according to relay retention rules.
- You can request deletion of your proximity location index data at any time via the "Clear Location Now" button in the app.
